Less Known Science : Intelligent cells that eavesdrop !!

eavesdrop“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be”

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude

–   Oprah Winfrey

“You cannot tailor-make the situations in life but you can tailor-make the attitudes to fit those situations     – Zig Zigler

When I was a kid, my mom always asked me to talk positively and avoid using words that have negative connotations.

When asked why, she always said that the “Angels” were watching from above and they keep saying   “So be it..” hence we should be very careful while saying things because its more likely that they may come true.

I understand….. , it does sound funny….. , especially the angels constantly saying “so be it” part! 😉

But.. If we look deeper into what is being conveyed, what we realize is that it’s nothing but a wonderfully constructed statement with huge metaphysical implications.

What is more astounding is the fact that it reflects on many modern discoveries and contemporary thinking that relates to advance ideas of Quantum Physics, NLP, Law of attraction and Neurology.

In my previous posts I have covered almost most of them which you can read Here and here and here

It can be easily observed that

“Our life is predominantly shaped by our thoughts and by carefully vetting what we say and how we think, we can shape our reality the way we desire”

I have extensively talked about this to many of my friends and colleagues and it has always been an integral part of my Personality Development Workshop.Every time when  I stress on the importance of ‘how’ and ‘what’ we think …and its vital role in shaping our life, people ask me the same question almost every time :

“It sounds pretty interesting, but…is there any Scientific Proof for it?”

This post talks about one such scientific proof and it deals with Neuropeptide

In the early 1970s, neuroscientist and psychopharmacologist, Candace Pert, Ph.D. discovered the “neuropeptide” opiate receptor site on cells, which was undoubtedly one of many important advances in the scientific understanding of the mind-body connection.

Every cell in our body has receptors for neuropeptides and our body literally “eavesdrops” on our every thought and feeling.

This literally makes the cells intelligent.

By saying “yes” to our inner life and deeper desires, we give our body a “live” message.

When we repetitively neglect ourselves in the name of pleasing others, we tell our bodies that we are “worth less” .

So what happens when we tell our bodies we are “worth-less” ?

Our bodies eavesdrop on those thoughts, and there is literally an opening for dis- “ease”.

When we pursue our deeper desires and weave them ethically and responsibly into our daily lives, we give our bodies a “live” message. We reaffirm the value and worthiness of our lives, and we have an opportunity for healing both physically and emotionally

This discovery was made more popular by Dr.Deepak Chopra  a world famous  alternative medicine practitioner.  According to him, the discovery of neuropeptides is so significant because it showed that the body is fluid enough to match the mind. Thanks to messenger molecules (neuropeptides), events that seem totally unconnected- such as a thought and a bodily reaction- are now seen to be consistent.

Let me make something clear here,

The neuro-peptide isn’t a thought but it moves with thought, serving as a point of transformation. . . A neuropeptide springs into existence at the touch of a thought.

It basically gets way too technical if we go deeper into its mechanism. If you still want to know, you can read it HERE

Simply put,

The immune cells which are protecting you from dis”ease” are constantly eavesdropping on the conversation that you are having with yourself.

“Your self-talk”.

They listen in and adjust their behaviour based on what they hear from you.

Hence it is imperative to carefully vet what you say and how you think because it’s your thoughts that manifests itself in the material world!

Maybe, next time you have a headache, you must try affirming yourself that it would subside in few mins and most importantly believe so, rather than popping in an Analgesic . You would be amazed to see the results … Provided “you believe in what you have affirmed” 🙂

  1. Dude, I just realized we’ve covered all of what you’ve written here over dinner. I mean, for one, if I had read this without our discussion, I really wouldn’t have understood. But now everything makes so much sense.
